With Panorama Landmine as his sire and Panorama Angeline 9 as his Dam, new release progeny test sire Panorama Anticipation is sure to receive a lot of interest from breeders.

Dam, Panorama Angeline 9 Ex92 was four times Brisbane Royal Champion with her Maternal Sister, Panorama Angeline 8 EX90, crowned Champion Cow at IDW in 2008 and Reserve Champion Cow at IDW in 2007.  She was also a Brisbane Royal champion, being named Champion Cow in 2005.

EXCITING NEW U.K. BULL COMING TO AUSTRALIA

U.K. Dairy Shorthorn bull Bushmills Jazz is an exciting new option for Illawarra breeders. The IDP committee has had this young bull on their radar since learning of his existence some 12 months ago. His dam Marleycote Princess Jill 31 EX95 is one of the highest classified cows in the breed. If you do an internet search on this cow you will uncover a multitude of photos taken over the last 5-6 years, and from any angle she looks outstanding. She is backed by an EX90 Jinny’s Empire, then EX90 and VG89 dams behind that. With lactations over 13,000 litres, fat over 4.7% and protein 3.6%, Princess Jill 31 ticks every box.  Check out the photo below for full details.

His sire Churchroyd Victor EX96 is backed by an EX95 dam. Prominent Illawarra breeders Tony Hayes (Llandovery) and Warren Doecke (Springvale) have both visited the UK in the past two years. Both commented that the Churchroyd Victor daughters as a line were as good as any bull they saw.

A feature of the UK Dairy Shorthorn population is their outstanding rumps, with tremendous width and ideal pin set. Going by the photos taken of Jazz as a calf he looks to be no exception (see below). The IDP committee fully endorses the use of Bushmills Jazz within the Illawarra breed. The tremendous depth of pedigree, super components and potential for rump improvement should be a beneficial addition to our gene pool. At 41.8% shorthorn he is relatively low for breed purity, however he will provide a good outcross of genetics. Though not a total outcross to the Illawarra breed with Empire in the pedigree, he represents a total outcross to the Silverleigh Mima (Monarch, MC, Maxima) and Lemon Grove Buttercup (Buttler, Belagio, BYGOLD & Biestar) lines that are prominent within the breed.

New Overseas Bull Endorsed by IDP

The Illawarra Development Program (IDP) committee has endorsed New Zealand Milking Shorthorn young Sire Brecon Kaikoura for use in the Illawarra breed. Whilst the use of Illawarra Genetics is promoted first and foremost, the committee recognises the importance of genuine outcross genetic options. In theory, New Zealand genetics should be more compatible with Australian grazing based systems than those found anywhere else in the world.

Kaikoura was selected primarily for the extreme components in his maternal line. The committee was also impressed by the dairy strength and quality udder of his dam (see attached flyer). His dam has a 7 lactation lifetime average of 4.67% fat and 4.28% protein! This astonishing protein production was done with milk yields over 7000 litres in under 305 days. Anyone familiar with NZ farming systems would recognise that this is a high performance cow. The Brecon herd based in New Zealand’s South Island experiences its share of challenging climatic conditions, with snow cover not uncommon in winter. The second dam has a 7 lactation lifetime average of 4.5% fat and 3.68% protein, with a best yield of 8094 L @ 4.68% fat and 3.75% protein.

Kaikoura’s sire Brecon Egmont is a son of All World photo competition winner Brecon Arty Empress. Empress was Grand Champion at the 2013 NZ Dairy Event and also won All breeds 6 year old in milk under judge Brian Leslie, making her the first of the breed to win an Interbreed in milk class at NZDE.

Note that Brecon Kaikoura is not an especially high purity Sire (will be 62.5% in Illawarra Herd book). However he has minimal Holstein blood, with the non Milking Shorthorn blood coming from Ayrshire (Sire of 2nd dam) and Swedish Red, having T-Bruno and Sorby in the background of his pedigree.
