2014 Holzhauser Production Competition

The Altmann Family from South Australia has again reigned supreme in the Holzhauser competition based on herd recording results during 2014. It was, however, a close competition between the top four, with Ian and Julie Mueller coming in second, Rob and Marie Newton third, and the Altmann family's second entry in fourth.

Entries in the Holzhauser Awards consist of ten cows with the highest combined total protein and butterfat content – there are no test restrictions. An award is also given to the entry showing the most significant improvement over the previous year’s average in the combined total of protein and butterfat.

Myrtleholme Production Kings

Back to the Bourkes

The Bourke family has again reigned supreme in the Queensland Illawarras’ Production Cow of the Year competition, this time with Myrtleholme Empress 32.  They retain the Michael Ledger Memorial Shield following on from their success in 2008 with Mytleholme Lemon Empress 14 and will receive further prizemoney of $250 donated by the Ledger Family.

Empress produced a whopping 13472 litres of milk and 944 kgs of fat plus protein at an average of 3.3% protein and 3.71% fat.

Not only does Empress put milk in the vat, she looks good too, taking out Honourable Mention in the Champion Cow lineup at the 2009 Toowoomba Royal Show.  Empress is by Myrtleholme Kieran.

The Bourke family is new to the show ring, creating great interest amongst other breeders and dairy people.  Their herd features heavily in the top ten production figures for each age group with a major achievement being the top ten animals in the Mature Milk section.

NATIONAL PRODUCTION RECORD BROKEN

The Production Committee spokesman, Brian Parker, has announced that there has been one new National Record broken this year and it involves all 3 senior yearling categories.

The young cow, Blackwood Park Buttercup 232, produced 11571 ltrs milk 371 kgs protein and 452 kgs fat.  Add to this the honor of Intermediate Champion from the 2014 Adelaide Royal and this makes her one of the best getting around at the moment.  She is sired by Verbs Viscount and her dam is BP Buttercup 225 who herself holds all J3 national records, the  J4 Milk and Butterfat records and the Mature Butterfat  and Protein records .Without a doubt this is Australia's Premier Production Family.

Breeders can also try BP Buttercup 232`s Maternal Brother Butternut available from Agri Gene.

Blackwood Park now hold 16 National Production Records from a possible 24.

The 2015 STP Awards show around the same number as 2014.  Brian Parker said that he contacted Holstein Australia and asked their representative to ensure all Illawarra breeders were asked for any STP cows on HFAA's spring tours.

Brian said he was thrilled that Robyn and Charles Lucas at Bega have just achieved their first STP cow who had to do 9 lactations but they could not be any happier and they have another one coming soon.  So it's not only about big milking cows.

"It would be good to add a Victorian member to the committee," said Brian,  "as we have talked about establishing an annual top producers award and to have a contact from that state might help. It would be an addition to the committee not at anybody's expense."

ALL MEMBERS PLEASE CHECK YOUR ANNUAL PRODUCTION STATS. You might take a Blackwood Park record !!!!

A full list of Production Records is available under Production/Production Records.

New Illawarra Production Award

ICSA Production Award

The Production Committee of the ICSA is proud to announce that Glenbrook Dainty 10 bred & owned by IL & JA  Mueller  of Murray Bridge South Australia has broken the Butterfat Record KG for a Junior 4 yr old Illawarra.

Calving at 48 months of age Dainty 10 produced 642 kgs of Butterfat at an average of 4.8% in the 305  day lactation.

Glenbrook Dainty 10 now attains the National J4 BF Record after surpassing the previous record held by Blackwood Park Laurel 90 with 632 kg BF set in 2014.  So it`s easy to say with only 10kg of BF separating these records just how close and hard it is to break an Illawarra Production Record.

Glenbrook Dainty 10 is sired by Glenbrook General.

Congratulations to the Mueller Family.

THREE NEW PRODUCTION RECORDS TO SA

Chairman of the Production Committee, Geoff Cochrane,  has reported that the past twelve months has been another very good year for records with the Committee recently ratifying records for three South Australian cows, not bad for the driest state of the driest continent on earth.
